Police Scotland are appealing for information in relation to death of Joanne Newlands at a property in Kirkton Avenue, Glasgow.


Details of Incident

 

A murder investigation has been launched following the death of a woman at a block of flats in Glasgow.

 

Around 8pm on Tuesday, 17 March, 2026, officers were called to a property in Kirkton Avenue after a report was received of concern for a 41-year-old woman. Emergency services attended however she was pronounced dead at the scene.

 

The woman can be named as Joanne Newlands and her family have been informed. They are being supported by specialist officers.

 

Following a post mortem, her death is being treated as suspicious and extensive enquiries are ongoing to establish the circumstances.

 

On Wednesday, 18 March, a 49-year-old man was arrested in connection with the death and later released pending further enquiry.

 

Detective Chief Inspector Gordon MacKenzie said: “Our thoughts are with Joanne’s family and friends at this time. We are providing them with support as our investigation continues.

“An extensive investigation is being carried out and we are working to establish the full circumstances of what happened in the days prior to Joanne’s death.

“I am appealing to anyone who may have any information, no matter how insignificant it may seem, to contact us as soon as possible.

 

Local Area Commander, Chief Inspector Karen Cameron, said: “We understand the significant impact this will have on the community and we would like to thank everyone for their help so far.

“There will be a continued police presence in the area as enquiries continue and anyone with any concerns can speak to officers.”
