Operation Altman - Death of David SMITH

Police Scotland are appealing for information in relation to the death of David Smith that occurred at a property in Glenraith Square, Glasgow.


Details of Incident

A murder investigation is ongoing after the death of a 49-year-old man in Glasgow.

 

Officers were called to a property at Glenraith Square around 5.45pm on Tuesday, 17 March, 2026 following concerns for the occupant.

 

He was pronounced dead at the scene and can now be named as David Smith from the local area.

 

His death is being treated as suspicious following a post-mortem examination and an investigation is ongoing.

 

Detective Chief Inspector Laura Young, of Police Scotland’s Major Investigations Team, said: “Our thoughts are with David Smith’s family and friends at this time.

 

“Specialist officers are providing them with support as our investigation progresses.

 

“Extensive enquiries are being carried out and we are working to establish the full circumstances of what happened in the days before David was found deceased.

 

“This includes officers going door to door in the local area, as well as thorough analysis of the available CCTV footage from the area.

 

“I am appealing to anyone who may have any information or believes they have seen any suspicious activity in the Glenraith Square area from Friday, 13 March until Tuesday, 17 March to get in touch.

 

“Your information, no matter how insignificant it may seem, may be important so please contact us as soon as possible.

 

Local Area Commander, Chief Inspector Jonathan Watters said: “We understand the impact this will have on the local community and we would like to thank everyone for their help so far with our enquiries

 

“There will be a continued police presence in the area and I would urge anyone who may have concerns or information to approach our officers.”
