Serious Assault Bute Park, Cardiff

Detectives investigating a serious assault in Bute Park, Cardiff, have tonight charged a 16-year-old girl with attempted murder.
The girl, who cannot be named for legal reasons, was arrested in the Creigiau area of Cardiff yesterday evening (Monday, July 26)
She is remanded in custody and will appear at Cardiff Youth Court tomorrow (Wednesday, July 28)
A 54-year-old man remains in a life-threatening condition at the University Hospital of Wales, Cardiff, following the assault at around 1am on Tuesday, July 20.
His family have been updated and are being supported by specially-trained family liaison officers.
Three people have now been charged with attempted murder and detectives are not currently looking for anyone else in connection with the assault.
Senior Investigating Officer, A/Detective Chief Inspector Stuart Wales said: “I would like to thank the public for their valuable assistance as we continue to investigate the circumstances of this incident.
“While the charging of a third person is an extremely positive development, we are still appealing for information. No matter how minor the information might seem, it could be crucial to our investigation.
“In particular, we’d like to hear from anyone who was in Bute Park during the very early hours of Tuesday, July 20.
“Specifically we want to speak to anyone who was near the Millennium footbridge, which links Bute Park to Sophia Gardens, between midnight and 1.20am.”
A Major Incident Room has been set up at Cardiff Central Police Station and increased patrols are continuing in the area.
Jason Edwards, 25, and Lee William Strickland, 36, both from Cardiff, appeared at Cardiff Magistrates’ Court yesterday (Monday, July 26) charged with attempt murder and are remanded in custody for a further court hearing on August 23.
