Appeal for information regarding sightings of a Mercedes C Class displaying registration YD14 OHT in Westcliff on Sea / Southend on Sea area on 16/04/2026

Details of Incident

We have arrested a 26-year-old man in connection with a serious collision in Westcliff on Thursday evening.

Officers were called at around 7.30am on Thursday 16 April to Crowstone Road, Westcliff.

It was reported that a white Mercedes CClass car, registration YD14 OHT, had been involved in a collision with a man before the vehicle left the area.

The man, aged in his 40s, received immediate treatment from members of the public, officers and ambulance service colleagues. He was taken to hospital, where he remains in a critical condition.

The Mercedes was found abandoned in Britannia Road a short time later. It has since been recovered and forensically examined. Enquiries established that the car had been stolen from an address in Sutton Road, Southend, during the early hours of the morning, at around 1am.

Following a public appeal on Friday a 26-year-old man of no fixed abode was located in Southend and arrested on suspicion of attempted murder. He remains in custody.

We continue to work at pace to establish the circumstances of the collision involving a car and pedestrian in Crowstone Road on 16 April, and we are still asking for the public’s help regarding the movement of the white Mercedes involved in the incident.

Detectives are continuing several enquiries across the Westcliff and wider Southend area including CCTV enquiries, forensic examinations and housetohouse visits.

Neighbourhood policing teams are also maintaining patrols across the area to provide reassurance and engage with residents. Please approach them if you have any concerns.
