Murder of Zane SMART

15-year-old Zane Smart was murdered on 27th May 2022 near to the canal bridge on Reapers Walk, Pendeford, Wolverhampton. The cause of death was a stab wound to his chest. His family has been left heartbroken and devastated with grief at the loss of Zane. A 16-year-old boy, who cannot be named for legal reasons, has now been charged with murder. We've arrested a second teenager on suspicion of the murder who will be questioned over the fatal stabbing as part of a joint enterprise.


Details of Incident

15-year-old Zane Smart was murdered on 27th May 2022 near to the canal bridge on Reapers Walk, Pendeford, Wolverhampton.

The cause of death was a stab wound to his chest.

His family has been left heartbroken and devastated with grief at the loss of Zane.

A 16-year-old boy, who cannot be named for legal reasons, has now been charged with murder.

We've arrested a second teenager on suspicion of the murder who will be questioned over the fatal stabbing as part of a joint enterprise.

  • Zane was part of a group of a people standing outside Pendeford Fish Bar, The Haymarket at about 3.40pm and we still need to identify everyone who was there so that we can speak to them about what happened.
  • We know there were other people in the area of Reaper’s Walk canal bridge at the time the stabbing occurred. If you know of anyone who was present or were present yourself and haven’t yet been spoken to, please share this information with us.
  • We believe that a video showing some of the incident was posted on Snapchat. The video is vital to our investigation and we’re appealing for anyone with a copy of it to send it in, or let us know which accounts it was shared by.
