South Yorkshire Police name victim of Murder Investigation in the Stradbroke area of Sheffield on Monday 8th May 2023


Detectives name victim in Sheffield murder

A man who died in Stradbroke, Sheffield on Monday, 8 May has now been named as 19-year-old Adam Abdul-Basit.

Police were called to Smelter Wood Drive around 1pm following reports a man had been assaulted. Upon arrival Mr Abdul-Basit was found with critical injuries and despite the best efforts of medical professionals he was pronounced dead at the scene.

He has been formally identified and his family are being supported by specially trained officers.

A post-mortem revealed he died of a single stab wound to his chest.

Detective Chief Inspector Phil Etheridge who is the senior officer leading the investigation said: "We are continuing to work around the clock to bring those responsible to justice. While the investigation is still in the early stages, we believe this to be an isolated incident with no risk to the wider community.

"I would urge anybody with information that can help the investigation to please come forward. If you have CCTV that could have captured the incident or if you were driving in the area around the time of the incident and may have captured it on dash cam, please get in touch."
