Detectives name victim in Sheffield shooting

A man who died following a shooting in Burngreave, Sheffield yesterday (Monday 16 November) has today been named as Ramey Salem.

Mr Salem, who was also known as Remey Saleh, was taken to hospital with gunshot wounds at around 1am yesterday morning.

He had allegedly been shot inside a property on Grimesthorpe Road South.

Today, he has been formally identified and his family is being supported by specially trained officers.

A post-mortem examination revealed he died as a result of multiple gunshot wounds.

DCI Mark Oughton, the officer leading the investigation, said: "I'd like to reassure local people that we are working around the clock to bring those responsible to justice.  While we are in the early stages of the investigation, we believe this to be an isolated incident with no risk to the wider community.

"I would urge anyone who has any information that could help the investigation to contact us, or if you are uncomfortable speaking to the police directly you can call Crimestoppers completely anonymously."
