Investigation into suspected serious assault involving a vehicle in Sunderland. Just before 11am on Tuesday, December 16, police received a report of a suspected vehicle theft on Stannington Grove in Sunderland. It was reported suspects have stolen a delivery vehicle before colliding with the driver – causing him to sustain life-threatening injuries.

Officers are appealing for information and witnesses following a suspected serious assault involving a vehicle in Sunderland.

Just before 11am on Tuesday, December 16, police received a report of a suspected vehicle theft on Stannington Grove in Sunderland.

It was reported suspects have stolen a delivery vehicle before colliding with the driver – causing him to sustain life-threatening injuries.

The vehicle was later found abandoned on Aysgarth Avenue.

Emergency services attended and the victim, a man in his 50s, was taken to hospital for treatment where he remains in a critical but stable condition.


Today, officers are asking anyone who may have witnessed the incident to get in touch – including those who may have doorbell, CCTV or dashcam footage.

They are particularly keen to hear from those who were in Stannington Grove and Aysgarth Avenue streets and surrounding areas Tuesday morning and may have seen anything which could assist their enquiries.
