CHESHIRE MURDER INVESTIGATION - ELLESMERE PORT

Appeal for information regarding Cheshire Police murder investigation on Summertrees Road, Great Sutton, Ellesmere Port


Details of Incident

Detectives have arrested a man in connection with a murder investigation following the death of a man in Ellesmere Port.

 

At around 8.20pm on Wednesday 1 May, police were called to reports that a man had been assaulted on Summertrees Road, Ellesmere Port.

 

Officers attended the scene, and it is believed at this stage that the victim was stabbed. He was treated by paramedics at the scene before being taken to the Countess of Chester Hospital. Sadly, despite the best efforts of all those involved, he has since died.

 

The victim has been confirmed as 34-year-old Lloyd Velasquez from Ellesmere Port. His family have been informed and are being supported by specialist officers at this time.

 

Enquiries in relation to the incident have been ongoing throughout the night, and it is now believed that the victim was assaulted by three men who were known to him.

At 1.35am on Thursday 2 May, a 19-year-old man from Ellesmere Port was arrested in the Halewood area of Merseyside in connection with the incident and is currently in police custody.

 

Enquiries are ongoing in relation to further suspects.

 

Chief Superintendent Jon Betts said:

“We would like to reassure the local community that this is believed to be an isolated incident. One man has already been arrested and we have ongoing enquiries in relation to further suspects.

“I understand the concern that this is likely to cause, but we would like to assure residents that this type of incident is incredibly rare in Cheshire. There will be extra patrols conducted in the area to provide reassurance and anyone with any concerns is urged to speak to an officer.

“As part of the investigation we’re still keen to hear from anyone who was in the area and witnessed what took place. The same goes for anyone with any CCTV or dashcam footage.”
