OP HUXLEY – Murder of Joy Hewer, Walthamstow 1995

Police are appealing for information on the murder of Joy HEWER (52) who was found dead at her flat in St David’s Court, Walthamstow on 17/10/1995. She had been sexually assaulted and repeatedly stabbed before the premises were set alight. It is believed Joy knew her killer and let them into her sixth floor flat after 9.45pm. A male was seen entering the block at 10.31pm. A phone call was made to emergency services from a call box in Fulbourne Road at 11.18pm. Police are keen to trace both males

Met detectives investigating the murder of Joy Hewer 30 years ago are appealing for information. There is a substantial reward of up to £20,000, for information leading to the identification, arrest and prosecution of the person/s responsible for the Murder of Joy Hewer.

 

Firefighters discovered her body around 11.30pm; two separate fires had been started inside. A post-mortem revealed Joy had been sexually assaulted and suffered multiple stab wounds.

On the night of her death, Joy had spoken with friends and family before neighbours later reported hearing banging noises and furniture being moved between 10.30pm and 11.00pm. At 11.18pm, a man called the fire brigade from a public phone box in Fulbourne Road. Despite previous appeals, he has never been identified and may hold vital information.

 

Police are also seeking a man caught on CCTV entering St David’s Court around 10.30pm – white, aged 30–40 at the time, with short hair and a light-coloured jacket. He would now be in his 60s or 70s.


A full DNA profile was recovered from the scene and we are continuing to explore all opportunities, including advancements in DNA technology.
