This weekend, Newport International Sports Village, Stadium Way, Spytty, Newport, NP19 4PT has been hosting Radio 1’s Big Weekend Music Festival and today is the final day of the festival.

It is a ticketed event with an expected attendance of 24,000. People are sitting in the main block and also standing on the pitch in front of the stage. The Foyer area is particularly busy as bars and food stalls have been set up in there.

The event is a public safety event; therefore, an event command structure is set up and a limited number of Police, Ambulance, St Johns Ambulance, and ground stewards are at the site dealing with minor incidents and usual activities for a music concert.

At approx. 1400 hrs on 25^th September 2023, what is believed to be a bomb has been detonated in the foyer area.

The blast has also affected the seating area within the stadium arena (mostly Blocks D and E) which has partially collapsed.
