Murder of Alfred Swinscoe, who disappeared in 1967 and his remains discovered 26/04/2023

A murder investigation has been launched after human remains were found in a field in Sutton-in-Ashfield.

Specialist officers have been working alongside a team of scientists to determine who the person is and how they died.

On Wednesday, 26 April 2023, construction work was being carried out on farmland in Coxmoor Road when a member of the public came across some bones.

Police were called to the scene and a large cordon was put in place while work was carried out to exhume the rest of the remains.

Extensive work including a post-mortem has been conducted by a team of scientists including an anthropologist.

The remains have subsequently been identified following a successful DNA match as belonging to Alfred Swinscoe, who went missing in early 1967 after drinking at the Pinxton Miners Arms in Derbyshire.
