SYP - MURDER OF STEPHEN RILEY

South Yorkshire Police are conducting a Murder Investigation following the death of Stephen Riley in Darley Avenue, Athersley South, Barnsley on Friday 26th June 2020.


Details of Incident

A 43-year-old man who died after reportedly being stabbed in Barnsley on Friday evening has been named as Stephen Riley.

 

Mr Riley was found injured in Darley Avenue, Athersley at around 11pm. He was taken to hospital but sadly died shortly after midnight on Saturday 27th June. A post mortem examination concluded that he died from a stab wound to his chest.

 

Detectives have today arrested a 37-year-old man from Barnsley on suspicion of murder in connection with Mr Riley's death. He is currently in custody.

 

Mr Riley’s family continue to be supported by specially trained officers and we remain keen to hear from anyone with information which could assist our investigation.
