We have launched a murder investigation after a woman died in Newcastle-under-Lyme.

We were called by West Midlands Ambulance Service at 11.15am on the morning of Monday 12 October, who attended Clayton Lane following reports of the sudden death of a woman.

Officers attended and, sadly, a woman was pronounced dead at the scene.

The woman's next of kin has been informed.

A 47-year-old man, from Stoke-on-Trent, has been arrested on suspicion of murder. He remains in custody.
