Staffordshire Police continue to appeal for witnesses to an incident in Newcastle Under Lyme on the afternoon of 04/09/2026. 

We were called to Orme Road just after 5pm, Friday 4 September, by colleagues from West Midlands Ambulance Service.

Jamie Evans  aged 20 from Stone was found to have serious injuries consistent with a stab wound.  He was taken to hospital, where he sadly died.  His family are being supported specially-trained officers. Jamie's family described him as wonderful son, loving brother and doting uncle whose warmth, kindness and great sense of humour bought happiness to everyone around him.

Two men have today appeared at Stoke on Trent Crown Court  after being charged with the murder of  Jamie Evans in Newcastle-under-Lyme. Corey Hughes, 20,  and Connor Edward Cartlidge, 22 are both of Newcastle Under Lyme. Hughes was also charged with possession of a knife in a public place. Hughes and Cartlidge have been remanded into custody. They are next due to appear at Stoke on Trent Crown Court on 13/11/2026. A 38 year old man, from Stoke on Trent who has also been arrested on suspicion of assisting an offender, has been released on conditional bail, while our enquiries continue
