Police are appealing to identify a man in connection with a sexual assault case in the Greenstead area of Colchester at about 11pm on Monday 4th May 2026. Police are also appealing for CCTV, doorbell or dashcam footage and to locate a taxi driver in the area that night.


Appeal to identify man in connection with sexual assault case

Do you recognise this man? We want to speak to him in connection with a serious sexual assault in the Greenstead area of Colchester.

The incident took place in a path between The Chase and Stanley Wooster Way at about 11pm on Monday 4th May. The victim, a woman, reported being approached by a man and sexually assaulted before he left the area. The woman is being supported by our specialist officers while our work continues.

An extensive investigation is ongoing, and we are now asking the people of Greenstead to tell us if they recognise this man. Detective Inspector Tim Coyles, of our Serious Crime Directorate, said: “It is crucial we identify and locate this man to progress our enquires.”

“If you know him, please help us locate him. If this is you, please contact us so we can speak to you as soon as possible.”

Police are also appealing to a taxi driver who we understand met our victim when he parked in Hawthorn Avenue to go to the Hunwicke Road shops to buy a soft drink between 9pm and 11.30pm on the Monday evening. “This man may also have significant information. If you believe this is you, please come forward.”

DI Coyles added: “The woman in this case remains at the heart of all our work, and her wellbeing remains paramount. We continue to do all we can to identify this man and build a full picture of the circumstances around this incident.”
