Op Alberta

Appeal for information in relation to the Murder of Cumali Turhan.

Details of Incident

Cumali Turhan was murdered in Chelmsford in November 2024. His body was put in a bin outside the Barista Bar in Duke Street.

Essex Police searched for 47 days in an Essex landfill site to locate his body, no other police force in the country is believed to have recovered a body from a landfill site during an active search.

The night the 45-year-old disappeared he had met Ceyhan Dinler for a drink in The Globe pub, before they walked to Barista Bar. Cumali never made it out alive.

Dinler was seen at Stansted Airport on 19 November 2024 – the day Cumali disappeared.

A second man Cillian Ilie was jailed for seven years in October 2025 for assisting an offender (murder) and preventing the decent burial of a body.

Detectives need to locate Ceyhan Dinler so that he can answer their questions.

DCI Metcalfe said: “We are appealing to the public to support us with any information they have to help secure justice for Cumali and his family.

“We are actively trying to locate Mr Dinler, who we want to speak to in connection with Cumali’s death.

“We are working closely with the Crown Prosecution Service to ensure he is found and answers our questions.

“Please help us with any piece of information you have, it could be the vital piece of the jigsaw we need.

“Cumali’s body was dumped in a bin, in the most callous way. We stopped at nothing to find him and we are resolute in our determination to ensure the person responsible for his death is brought before the courts.”
