Operation Landform Appeal for Information

Detectives have launched a murder investigation following a fatal house fire in Peterborough

Details of Incident

Detectives have launched a murder investigation following a fatal house fire in Peterborough.

The fire service were called around 3am on Sunday 7th September to a fire in Wootton Avenue, Fletton, Peterborough.

Zbigniew Wasiak AKA Zibby, 59, was found dead inside the property.

A joint investigation with Cambridgeshire Fire and Rescue Service determined an accelerant was used by a third party to start the fire.

Detective Inspector Dale Mepstead, from the Bedfordshire, Cambridgeshire and Hertfordshire Major Crime Unit, said: “We are still in the early stages of our investigation and part of the initial enquiries will be to establish why the fire was started at his home.

“We are appealing for anyone with information to come forward, particularly if you live in the area of Wootton Avenue and recall seeing or hearing anything suspicious around the time of the incident or within the days prior to the fire.

“I understand this is likely to be concerning to the local community, but we believe it to be an isolated incident, and we have extra patrols in the area.”

Anyone with information, doorbell or dashcam footage are urged to come forward and contact the Investigation team via this portal.
