We were called to the car park of the Beggars Bush pub on Chester Road in Sutton Coldfield just before 2am.

A man in his 20s had been stabbed but despite the best efforts of the emergency services, he died at the scene.

We are reviewing CCTV and speaking to witnesses as we work to establish what happened.

It’s believed a large number of people had been at the venue for an event, and we’d appeal for anyone who was there or who has information about what had happened to come forward.

Det Ch Insp Stacey Follows, from our Major Crime Unit, said: “Our investigation is at an early stage, and our thoughts are with the man’s family and friends today.

“We will continue to support them as our investigation progresses, and I’d urge anyone who saw what happened, or who has dashcam or CCTV to get in touch with us as soon as possible.”
