Fatal collision appeal following two-vehicle collision on the A1

Fatal collision appeal following two-vehicle collision on the A1

We are appealing for witnesses and dashcam footage following a fatal two-vehicle collision on the A1.

It happened at approximately 6.10pm on Sunday 4 October on the southbound carriageway of the A1(M) between Junction 57 and Junction 56. The vehicles involved, a silver Ford Transit and a silver Volkswagen Golf, were both travelling southbound at the time.

Emergency services attended the scene, but sadly a 22-year-old woman from the Newcastle area was pronounced dead at the scene.

Her family have been informed and are being supported by specially trained officers. Our thoughts remain with them at this extremely difficult time.

Two men, a 31-year-old man from Newcastle and a 23-year-old man from Grimsby, have been arrested on suspicion of causing death by dangerous driving.

The road remained closed until 5am this morning while collision investigators carried out examinations and the vehicles were recovered.

We are particularly keen to hear from anyone who witnessed the collision or either vehicle in the moments leading up to it. We are also appealing to anyone with dashcam footage that may have captured the vehicles prior to the collision or the collision itself. Please link on the link below to upload
