OP Fountain Appeal for Information - Incident on Keelman's Terrace, Blyth on 12/06/2026, two women struck by a vehicle and injured.

Incident on Keelman's Terrace, Blyth on 12/06/2026

A teenager has been arrested on suspicion of attempted murder after a woman sustained life-threatening injuries when she was struck by a vehicle in Northumberland.

At 1.25am on Friday (June 12), police received a report via the ambulance service that two people had been injured while on Keelmans Terrace, close to the junction with Beaumont Street, in Blyth. It was reported that, for reasons yet to be established, a vehicle has been driven towards a group of women who were standing on the path. The vehicle struck two women, aged in their 30s.  One of the women sustained very serious injuries and was taken to hospital for treatment where she remains in a life-threatening condition.  Thankfully the other woman sustained only non-serious injuries.

Northumbria Police have launched a full investigation into the incident and later on Friday, a boy – aged 17 – was arrested on suspicion of attempted murder. He has since been released on police bail pending further enquiries.

Officers are now appealing for any witnesses to come forward.

Detective Chief Inspector Graeme Barr, of Northumbria Police’s Major Investigation Team (MIT), said: “This has clearly been a very serious incident which has resulted in two people being injured, with one left in a life-threatening condition.

“The investigation is at an early stage, but we do believe that those involved are known to each other.

“One person has been arrested and we are continuing to conduct enquiries in the area and offer reassurance to the public.

“We are particularly keen to hear from anyone with doorbell CCTV or dash cam footage.

“We would also like to hear from those who may have seen a small, dark coloured sports utility vehicle (SUV) car which is believed to have been in and around the area between 1am and 1.30am in the early hours of Friday.

“From our enquiries, it is understood that the victims of the collision on Keelmans Terrace were involved in an earlier altercation on or near Stephen Street between 1.15am and 1.20am with the occupants of the same dark coloured vehicle, although no-one was reported to have been injured.

“Please come forward – the information you are able to provide might just prove crucial in helping to establish the circumstances behind this report.”
