Police have launched an investigation following a murder in Wimbledon.

Detectives are appealing for witnesses to come forward with any information that could assist the investigation.

On Sunday, 22 February 2026 at 00:37hrs, officers, the London Ambulance Service and London's Air Ambulance responded to reports of a stabbing on The Broadway, Wimbledon.

One victim, a man in his 40s, was found with stab wounds and was treated at the scene by paramedics. Despite their efforts, he died shortly after their arrival.

His next-of-kin have been informed and are being supported by specialist officers.

One man in his 30s has been arrested on suspicion of murder.

Detective Chief Inspector Wayne Jolley, who is leading the investigation, said:

"Our thoughts remain with the victim's family. This is shocking act of violence to happen in the heart of a town, and we understand the impact this incident will have on the local community.While we have made one arrest, we urge anyone who was a witness to come forward. No matter how small, any piece of information could be vital to our investigation."
