At 16:51 hrs on Sunday 27th Sunday 27th September 2026, North Wales Police were contacted by a member of the public to report he had discovered the body of a newborn baby in the vicinity of the coastal area, just off Gorad Road, Bangor, Gwynedd.

We are working with our partners to establish the circumstances. HM Coroner is aware and a Home Office Post Mortem is scheduled to take place on Wednesday afternoon.

We have real concerns for the health of the mother who we recognise is likely to be extremely vulnerable and in crisis. She may be fearful of seeking the support she needs through fear of identifying herself.  The trauma experienced by this mother will continue to affect her unless she receives appropriate support as soon as possible.  We are concerned she may not be in a position to reach out for support, so we are appealing directly to the mother, father, and those who may have knowledge, such as friends, neighbours or colleagues.

We appreciate coming forward is really difficult, but inaction is not an option. The mother desperately needs help. Anyone with information, we need you to do the right thing to ensure this mother gets the health support she needs.

All names will be treated with the utmost discretion and can be eliminated as the mother without delay.
