Operation Queby (Mass SMS Communication Fraud)

The City of London Police has recently issued a mass communication via SMS to members of the public who we believe may have been contacted by overseas fraud gangs. In partnership with the Romanian Police, we have identified over 400 UK mobile phone numbers that may have been used by fraudsters. These communications are linked to a wider investigation.

Operation Queby (Mass SMS Communication Fraud)

The City of London Police has recently issued a mass communication via SMS to members of the public who we believe may have been contacted by overseas fraud gangs. We want to reassure you that this message is genuine and forms part of an ongoing investigation into organised criminal activity targeting UK residents.

In partnership with the Romanian Police, we have identified over 400 UK mobile phone numbers that may have been used by fraudsters. These communications are linked to a wider investigation into fraud.

Between 2023 & 2025, fraud gangs are believed to have used mobile phone numbers to send unsolicited messages and make unexpected calls to members of the public. If you were contacted out of the blue during this period and suspect you may have lost money as a result, we encourage you to come forward.

To submit information, people are asked to contact the City of London Police by completing a questionnaire on the Major Incident Public Portal (MIPP).
