At 1650hrs on Friday 24th July 2026, a fire was reported at Industrial units at Highlands Farm on Southend Road, between East Hanningfield and Rettendon.  This was later followed by an explosion.  Huge plumes of smoke could be seen and falling debris.  The incident was attended by the Essex County Fire and Rescue Service, who are asking for any information that may assist their investigation and for any video footage which contains this incident, the explosion or the fires.
