A murder investigation has been launched in Northampton following the death of a man in the Briar Hill area of the town today (Wednesday, February 18).
Emergency services were called to the skate park in Ringway, Briar Hill following reports that two people had been stabbed during an altercation in the park.
Sadly, and despite the best efforts of members of the public and the emergency services, a man in his 20s was pronounced dead at the scene and a teenage boy was taken to hospital with life-threatening injuries. He remains in a critical condition.
Four people have been arrested in connection with the incident and remain in police custody at this time. Two teenage boys, a man and a woman all from Northampton.
This is a fast-moving investigation, and more details will be released once we are able to do so, however witnesses or anyone who has relevant information, including CCTV, doorbell or mobile phone footage, is asked to contact the Force as a matter of urgency.
Senior Investigating Officer, Detective Chief Inspector Torie Harrison, of the East Midlands Special Operations Unit, said: “This is a tragic incident in which a man has sadly lost his life, and a teenage boy is in a critical condition. Our thoughts are firmly with both their families at this difficult time.
UPDATE
Detectives have today (Wednesday, February 25), released CCTV footage of two people who they would like to speak to in connection with the murder of Mason and attempted murder of the 17-year-old boy. They would also like to hear from anyone who was driving in Kings Heath, Duston, Upton and Briar Hill areas of Northampton, between 2pm and 4pm last Wednesday (February 18), and who has dash-cam footage of their journey. The investigation team would also like to hear from any residents and businesses, who may have CCTV or doorbell footage from the relevant timings and date, which captures two males on electric motorcycles travelling in convoy, to please get in touch. Detective Inspector Matt Bly of the East Midlands Special Operations Unit (EMSOU) Major Crime team, who is leading the murder investigation, said: “Mason’s death has left his family with unanswered questions, and they deserve to know what has happened to their loved one. “We know that the key to this investigation lies within the local community, and it is possible that some people have captured those responsible for the stabbings on CCTV or dash-cam footage and may not realise that they have vital information which could help us. “However small or insignificant you believe the information is, if you have not already done so, please get in touch as a matter of urgency. Any little detail may help us piece together what happened both before and after the incident at the skate park.” In addition, a 17-year-old boy was arrested yesterday afternoon (February 24) on suspicion of violent disorder, possession of an offensive weapon and manslaughter. He remains in custody. A 16-year-old boy, who was arrested on Sunday (February 22) on suspicion of violent disorder and manslaughter, has been released on police bail pending further enquiries.
