Man named following death in Barnsley

A man who died following an incident in Barnsley last Thursday (3 September) has been named by his family as Russell Baxter.

Details of Incident

At 9.16pm, we received a call from the Yorkshire Ambulance Service alerting us to the death of a man at a property on Wingfield Road in the Athersley South area.

Russell, 41, was found with multiple injuries and was sadly pronounced dead at the scene. Officers attended and an investigation was launched.

A post-mortem examination carried out on Friday (4 September) produced an inconclusive result and further testing is required to determine Russell's cause of death.

A 57-year-old man was arrested on suspicion of murder and has been bailed pending further work required following the post-mortem examination.

Detective Inspector Adam Watkinson, the senior investigating officer for this case, said: "My thoughts are with Russell's family and loved ones at this incredibly sad time, and they remain at the heart of our investigation.

"Our enquiries into Russell's death are ongoing, and I am appealing for information from the public who were either in or around the Wingfield Road area on the day of Russell's death.

"Were you in the area on Thursday? If you have any information, no matter how small or insignificant you think this may be, I encourage you to come forward and report this. The information you provide could be the missing piece we need in securing justice for Russell's loved ones."
